What is a non essential business? A question that is has currently gained traction.If you have been asking yourself what the meaning of essential and non essential businesses are, or the difference between the two, then you are not alone. Could that be because of Covid-19 incident and the shutdown of many businesses except what the governments consider essential businesses in their countries? Essential businesses are those businesses that enable people’s lives every day. Those businesses that provides and helps people with their daily needs. Simply put those businesses that one cannot survive without. Though the government in some cases can decide what essential businesses are to them, it still does not change its actual generic meaning and the business that it comprises of.

We cannot put a peg on these businesses as the only essential businesses as there may be many more businesses included by the government of each States but the list above are typical businesses that is needed for the survival of people on every day basis.
WHAT IS A NON ESSENTIAL BUSINESS?
Non essential businesses are those businesses that people can survive without, at least for a very long time. So, typical non essential businesses are businesses that do not provide health, security, money, food, food delivery, storage or any services that will impact on the daily lives and survival of human beings. These include;
- Real estate
- Beauty salons
- Manufacturing Companies like auto manufacturing companies
- Legal businesses; law offices.
- Movie Industries
- Bars and clubs
- Tours operating service business
- Casino business
- Sporting businesses
- Galleries and Museums
- Recreational service businesses
In times of pandemic like the corona virus incidence, only essential businesses are permitted by the government to open but that does not mean that non essential businesses may not continue serving the public, but they can only do that via phone, internet or virtual mediums. For example, a fitness trainer may still offer his services through Skype or other virtual platforms. A real estate Agent may still list his properties online and transact through phone.
